Supporting Cat Rescue

There are those that argue that breeders deprive homes from the millions of poor kitties who need rescuing.  As in the preservation of any animal, domestic or wild, the value to society in preserving pedigreed cats should not be underestimated.  The historical preservation of pedigreed cat breeds with selective, planned breeding for desirable and predictable traits enriches our lives and assures the continuance of these beautiful animals. Claims that the organized Cat Fancy Association contributes to the problem of homeless cats in shelters is not supported by evidence.

Having said that, this certainly doesn't mitigate the fact that there are way too many destitute and homeless animals in dire need.  I've been fortunate to touch the hearts of people all over the world with my cats and kittens through my YouTube videos, Facebook, and live web cam.  It's been a phenomenon that I had not counted on nor foreseen.  When I lost a kitten due to a tragic accident, I received email from people around the world asking to donate to charities in her name.  More have also solicited my suggestions for cat charities to support simply because they have enjoyed watching my kitties so much that they want to 'pay forward' their joy to kitties in need.  I suggest that each person choose the charity that means the most to them, however the venues below happen to be several I've personally chosen for my own reasons.

TLC Adoptions is a non-profit cat rescue and adoption organization in Southern California run by a wonderful veterinarian who has been very generous to me by sharing her vast knowledge in feline nutrition.   I try to give a donation from every litter to TLC Adoptions.  If you scroll down on the page linked above, you will find information on how to donate.

The Humane Society of the Northbay - and, of course, most areas have their own animal rescue organization.  If it's a worthy one, support it!  If not, you can help support mine ... this is one of several such local organizations in my area.

The Cat House on the Kings simply captured my imagination.  what they are doing is wonderful!  It is California's largest no-cage, no-kill, lifetime cat sanctuary and adoption cneter.  since its founding, The Cat House on the Kings has saved tens of thousands of cats and many dogs.  In addition, they have spayed and neutered countless animals.  Please check them out and consider supporting them.
